Jeremiah 31:33
Jeremiah 31:3333“But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.
JWs read as applying to the 144,000 anointed class under the new covenant. The "great crowd" are beneficiaries of the covenant's blessings but are not direct parties to it. The promise that "no one will teach another" (v. 34) is deferred as entirely future, justifying the present need for a centralised teaching authority — the Governing Body — to mediate divine instruction until the new covenant is fully realised.
promises that God will write his law on hearts and that "from the least to the greatest" they will know him. The universalising phrase "from the least to the greatest" is the fundamental refutation of the two-class system: the new covenant explicitly includes everyone, not just an elite subset. restates this promise as already inaugurated through Christ. The Reformed reading is neither "fully fulfilled now" nor "purely future" but inaugurated eschatology: the covenant is in effect now (the Spirit indwells every believer, ; the Bereans test teaching against Scripture, ; every believer is a priest, ) but not yet consummated until Christ returns. The direction of travel has begun — the Governing Body's claim to be a necessary mediating channel moves against that direction, not with it. seals the point: Jesus said "drink from it, all of you, for this means my blood of the covenant" — "all of you," without qualification.
