Heart Posture β Before You Open the Door
These are real people made in God's image who have been taught a distorted gospel. The goal is never to 'win' an argument but to plant a seed of truth that the Holy Spirit can water.
π€
Commend First: Always commend the JW's dedication and sincerity before raising points of disagreement. Jeff Durbin opens every encounter with genuine respect for their sacrifice.
β
Mutual Lostness: Name the elephant in the room: 'You believe I'm lost, and I believe you're lost. We're okay. We can talk honestly about that.'
β
Pickaxe, Not Rake: Learn one truth deeply rather than many truths superficially. A rake hits many points but never goes deep. A pickaxe penetrates. Go at least four layers deep on your chosen topic.
π
Use Their Bible: Use the NWT and jw.org wherever possible. They will dismiss any other source as apostate.
β‘
Kindness Over Cleverness: Rudeness confirms what JWs have been told about 'the world.' Kindness is far more disorienting than theological scoring.
π±
Trust the Process: The seed you plant may germinate weeks or months later, at 2 AM. You will almost certainly never see the fruit.
π
Win-Win Research Frame: Research is win-win: if true, faith gets stronger. If problems found, you can adjust. The only way to lose is to never look.
