Daniel 3:12
Daniel 3:1212But there are some Jews you have appointed to manage the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—who have ignored you, O king, and have refused to serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
A favourite Watchtower narrative and one JWs know well: three Hebrews refuse to bow to a state image, which is read as the model for Witnesses refusing flag salutes, military service and other acts treated as idolatry. The refusal to "serve" other gods is understood as exclusive devotion owed to Jehovah alone.
Agree with the application — exclusive worship does belong to God alone. Then notice the word Daniel uses for it, because it comes back later in the book with a target the Watchtower does not expect. The Aramaic verb here is pelach. Across Daniel it consistently marks religious service — the service these men will not give Nebuchadnezzar's gods and will give only to their own God. It appears again at 3:17, 3:18, 3:28, 6:16 and 6:20, always in that reserved sense. Then it appears at , where every people, nation and language group renders that same service to the one like a son of man who comes with the clouds. Daniel has spent four chapters establishing that this verb names what may be given to God and withheld from everyone else — and then gives it, universally and permanently, to the Son of Man.
