The Watchtower Has a Record of Failed Prophecies

Watchtower Teaching

The Watchtower has made specific, date-based predictions that failed: 1874 (Christ's invisible return — later moved to 1914), 1914 (Armageddon and the end of worldly governments), 1918 (destruction of churches), 1925 ('millions now living will never die' — ancient patriarchs to be resurrected), 1975 (end of 6,000 years of human history — widely understood as Armageddon). After each failure, the date is reinterpreted, the prediction is blamed on overzealous members, or the teaching is quietly dropped. The organisation has never formally acknowledged itself as having made false prophecies.

Why This Matters

provides the biblical test for a prophet: 'When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously.' The Watchtower spoke presumptuously — not once but repeatedly across 150 years. They claimed divine backing for predictions that failed. The Bible does not allow a second chance for false prophets, let alone a fifth. The pattern is consistent: predict, fail, blame the followers, reinterpret, repeat. A track record of 100% failure on specific date predictions is not 'the light getting brighter' — it is a lighthouse spinning in circles.
