Jesus is a created being; only Jehovah is eternal.
Read in the NWT, which speaks of Jehovah's eternity. Ask if this could be true of anyone other than Jehovah. They'll say no. Then turn to , which quotes this exact passage — and in context, Hebrews 1 is explicitly about the Son. Even jw.org cross-references these passages.
An attribute that belongs to Jehovah alone — eternality — is applied to Jesus in the New Testament.
Hebrews 1:3 says Jesus is the 'representation' of God — a copy, not God himself.
The Greek word is charakter — it means the exact imprint a signet ring leaves in wax. The imprint shares the very nature of the original. And apaugasma ('radiance') means brightness that flows from a light source — you cannot have sunlight without the sun, and you cannot have the sun without its radiance. Both terms describe someone who shares God's nature, not a lesser copy. Even your NWT says 'exact representation of his very being' — that's identity of nature, not inferiority.
Hebrews 1:4 says he 'became better than the angels' — that implies he was once lower.
explains this: Jesus 'was made a little lower than the angels' through the incarnation — he voluntarily took on human nature. After his resurrection he was exalted. The 'becoming better' refers to the post-resurrection exaltation, not an ontological upgrade. says the same thing: he was in the form of God, emptied himself, then God highly exalted him. He didn't become God — he returned to the glory he had before ().
Hebrews 1:10–12 is about Jehovah, not Jesus.
Read Hebrews 1 from verse 5 onwards. Every statement is about the Son: 'to which of the angels did he ever say…' (v5), 'about the Son he says' (v8). The entire chapter contrasts the Son with angels.
'Through whom he made' means Jesus was God's instrument — an agent, not the Creator himself.
Your NWT of says Jehovah was 'by myself' when he created — 'Who was with me?' If Jesus was a separate creature used as a tool, then Jehovah was not by himself, and the verse is false. The only way both texts are true is if the Son is included in who Jehovah is. And goes further — all things were created not just 'through him' but 'for him.' An instrument does not have creation made for its own sake. Even your NWT preserves that wording.
'Sustains all things' is delegated authority — Jehovah gave Jesus that task.
says Jehovah alone 'gives life to all things.' Sustaining every atom in the universe requires omnipotence and omnipresence — these are not transferable skills. says 'in him all things hold together.' If Jesus stopped sustaining creation, it would cease to exist. No creature has that kind of power. Your own NWT of says he 'sustains all things by the word of his power' — that is a divine prerogative, not a job description.
Do not say 'Jesus IS Jehovah' too quickly. Let them arrive at the tension themselves.
Read and then in the NWT until you can trace the chapter's flow from memory: 'to which of the angels' (verse 5), 'about the Son he says' (verse 8), then the psalm quoted in verses 10–12. On jw.org, confirm for yourself that the cross-references link back to Psalm 102. Practise asking aloud whether 'your years will never end' could be true of anyone but Jehovah, then pause and let them answer. Expect the reply that verses 10–12 are about Jehovah, not the Son, and rehearse walking them back through the chapter from verse 5. Resist saying 'Jesus is Jehovah' yourself; let them meet the tension.
