The Memorial commemorates Christ's death; only the 144,000 anointed partake.
The Memorial service itself is ongoing testimony against the 1914 doctrine. If Christ came in 1914, the 'until he comes' condition has been met — the Memorial should have ceased.
The Memorial is the Watchtower's own practice testifying against their own core doctrine.
Various deflections about the purpose of the Memorial.
Paul's words are plain: 'until he comes.' If he has come, there is no reason to continue. If the Memorial continues, the practice itself says he hasn't come.
We observe the Memorial to honour Jesus' sacrifice.
Consider what actually happens at the Memorial: in 2024, over 21 million people attended worldwide, but only about 23,000 partook of the bread and wine — the rest passed the elements without eating or drinking. Jesus said 'do this in remembrance of me' and 'unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you' (). Over 99.8% of attendees are told they are not worthy to participate in the very meal Jesus commanded all believers to share. The Watchtower counts who partakes each year — and growing partaker numbers have caused alarm, because if the 144,000 were sealed long ago, the numbers should be declining, not rising.
Do not criticise the practice. Express genuine curiosity.
Read the Lord's Supper account in 1 Corinthians 11 until you can quote verse 26 and its 'until he comes' condition from memory, then read alongside it. Check the NWT wording of yourself, so you are pointing to their own Bible. Practise the doorstep question aloud with real curiosity, so it sounds like a question you want answered rather than a criticism of the Memorial. Expect the reply that the Memorial simply honours Jesus' sacrifice; be ready to ask gently why, if every believer is to remember him, so few at the Memorial are invited to eat and drink.
