# Hebrews 2:6

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> But somewhere it is testified in these words: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?

## JW Usage

"What is man that you keep him in mind, or a son of man that you take care of him?" The Watchtower reads this Psalm 8 quotation primarily as commentary on humanity — Jehovah's purpose for mankind on a paradise earth. The verse is treated as anchoring the human-vocation reading of Psalm 8 and supporting the earthly-hope soteriology.

## Protestant Usage

Hebrews 2:6 quotes Psalm 8:4 — and the writer is doing more than Old Testament anthropology. The flow of 2:6-9 is: Psalm 8's "son of man" expectation has not been fulfilled in fallen Adam (verse 8b: "we do not yet see all things subjected to him"); but it has been fulfilled in Jesus (verse 9: "we see Jesus, made a little lower than the angels... crowned with glory and honour"). The author appropriates Psalm 8 christologically: Jesus is the true Adam who finally enters into the dominion creation always intended for humanity. This is why the New Testament repeatedly calls Jesus "the Son of Man" — the title carries Psalm 8 with it. Pair with 1 Corinthians 15:45 (Christ as the last Adam) and Romans 5:12-21.
