# Hebrews 1:13

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Yet to which of the angels did God ever say: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "But about which of the angels has he ever said: "Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet"?"

## JW Usage

JWs accept that Jesus was exalted to Jehovah's right hand and read this as a promotion granted to a faithful creature. The seat is understood as delegated royal authority — Jehovah's appointed king ruling on his behalf — and the contrast with the angels is taken to establish rank within the created order rather than a difference of nature. Psalm 110:1 is read the same way: "Jehovah said to my Lord" is offered as proof of two distinct beings, one greater and one lesser.

## Protestant Usage

The verse asks a question, so answer it with them: to which of the angels has God ever said, sit at my right hand? The answer is none — and that is the closing move of a chapter that has already said the Son is worshipped by the angels (v6), addressed as God (v8), and named as the one who laid the earth's foundations (v10). Verse 14 supplies the counterpart and is worth reading in the same breath: the angels are "ministering spirits sent out to serve." They are sent; he is seated. That is the difference the writer has been building toward for thirteen verses. If a JW presses "Jehovah said to my Lord" from Psalm 110:1 as proof of two beings, agree that it shows two persons — Trinitarians say so too. Then point out what the psalm has the second one doing: sitting on Jehovah's own throne until every enemy is subdued, and in verse 4 being made a priest forever by divine oath. Ask which creature in Scripture is ever invited to sit down beside God. Angels stand. Compare Hebrews 1:7, Psalms 2:7, Daniel 7:9.
