# Galatians 6:10

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.

## JW Usage

JWs cite this verse to justify focusing charitable efforts exclusively on fellow Witnesses. The phrase "especially toward those related to us in the faith" is read as a mandate to prioritise — and effectively limit — acts of kindness to the organisation's members. Combined with the teaching that God's Kingdom will replace the current system, broader community charity is treated as unnecessary. The organisation runs no public charities, and members are discouraged from civic volunteering outside disaster relief for fellow Witnesses.

## Protestant Usage

The verse says "work what is good toward all" first, then "especially toward those related to us in the faith." Priority is not exclusivity — "especially" presupposes a wider circle already being served. Jesus' tax-collector test in Matthew 5:46–47 warns that loving only your own group is what even pagans do. James 1:27 defines pure religion as caring for orphans and widows — not preaching. The absence of any public JW charity stands in tension with this verse's command to do good "toward all," and with the early church's practice of community generosity described in Acts 2:44–45 and Acts 4:34–35. The verse establishes graduated responsibility, not organisational exclusivity.
