# 1 Corinthians 15:51

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—

## JW Usage

JWs read 15:51 as referring specifically to the heavenly change undergone by the 144,000 at or during the invisible parousia that began in 1914. Because "the last trumpet" is an apocalyptic signal, the verse is folded into the broader 1914-based eschatology. The "we shall all be changed" phrase is restricted to the anointed class — the great crowd are not in view. Paul's bodily-transformation language is thus handled as a pneumatic transition for the elite only.

## Protestant Usage

15:51 describes a bodily transformation at a sudden, publicly-timed eschatological moment — "in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet." Paul is not describing an invisible, staged, class-restricted change across decades; he is describing an instantaneous resurrection-and-transformation for all believers who are alive at Christ's return. Read alongside 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ("with a shout... with the voice of the archangel... with the trumpet of God... we who are alive... will be caught up together") and Acts 1:11. The continuity with the visible-bodily-return argument is direct: the trumpet-and-transformation moment Paul describes is the same event Acts 1:11 insists is visible and bodily. The Watchtower cannot retain 15:51's sudden, public change and the 1914 invisible parousia at the same time.
