# Salvation Requires Works and Organisation Membership

## Watchtower Teaching

> JWs teach that salvation is not by faith alone but requires four specific conditions: (1) acquiring accurate knowledge of Jehovah and Jesus through Watchtower publications, (2) obeying God's laws as interpreted by the Governing Body, (3) belonging to and actively participating in Jehovah's organisation (the "ark" of survival), and (4) demonstrating loyalty through door-to-door preaching, meeting attendance, and submission to the elders. Missing any of these disqualifies a person from surviving Armageddon. Contrast with Ephesians 2:8–9 and Romans 11:6.

## Key Implication

If salvation requires organisational membership and measurable works, no Witness can ever have assurance of eternal life — there is always another meeting to attend, another door to knock on, another report to file. This is the opposite of what Scripture promises: 'These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life' (1 John 5:13). Paul draws a hard line in Romans 11:6 — 'If it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.' The Watchtower system produces perpetual anxiety rather than the peace of a finished work (John 19:30). Assurance is not arrogance; it is trusting the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice rather than supplementing it with human effort.
